How You Can Give Back
Hospice of Yuma is a team, and we collaborate with each other and with the patients and families we serve. A vital component of that team is the Hospice of Yuma Volunteer. We get different types as volunteers – mothers, fathers, winter visitors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, and students who are at least eighteen years of age. Each one of them brings their gifts, skills, and talents to share with us, and with those we serve.
Our volunteers are so essential because they are on the front lines of care, alongside the nurses and physicians. They provide home care to the patient, much needed respite for the caregiver, and they support staff as well within the office setting and the Thrift Shop. They truly make a difference in the lives of our patients. Oftentimes, our patients, as well as their families, need a person who will come and talk to them, share stories with them, and help in many different ways. We’ve found that our volunteers make lasting connections with the families they visit.
Things we have heard from our volunteers about their service with Hospice of Yuma:
- “My patients and their families teach me so much about life.”
- “It lets me help them the way my loved one was helped.”
- “It feels so good to be around such caring people.”
- “I know I am helping in a very special way.”
We have loving, committed, and caring volunteers as part of our team. If you would like to talk about volunteering opportunities and upcoming volunteer training classes, please contact Elizabeth Nuñez at 928-343-2222.
